This morning is at leisure; perhaps a trip up the Mönchsberg lift for a spectacular view of Salzburg, or maybe a walk through the Mirabell Gardens – featured in the “Do-Re-Mi” sequence!  If you wish to do some shopping, make your way to the Getreidegasse; one of the oldest streets in Salzburg; famous for it’s wrought- iron guild signs. This afternoon you are in for a treat as you embark on the Original Sound of Music Tour. This guided tour includes breathtaking views of the landscape where some of the opening scenes were filmed.  Highlights include the historical and architectural landmarks in the city as well as a part of the picturesque Lake District. You will see Leopoldskrone Palace, situated on the lake (remember the rowboat scene!), and Hellbrunn Palace, where the original gazebo from the movie is now located.  You will also see, Nonnberg Abbey, Maria’s home before she leaves for the Von Trapp Villa.  In the Lake District, you will visit the town of Mondsee and visit the church where the wedding scene between Maria and the Captain was filmed.  After a full day, the evening back in Salzburg is at leisure.

Enjoy lunch at the mountain panorama restaurant at the Hotel Schafsbergspitze.  In the afternoon you will visit the picturesque town of Werfen, nestled in the Austrian mountains.  This is where the picnic scene was filmed where Maria teaches the children to sing “Do-Re-Mi”.  While the meadow is now private property, it is possible to see it from a distance.  Afterwards, you will visit the Castle Hohenwerfen; the castle is seen over Julie Andrew’s shoulder as she sings to the children.   Return to Salzburg late afternoon.  This evening enjoy the Sound of Salzburg Dinner Show including a 3 course menu and one free drink per person.

JUN 4   SALZBURG                                                 B
Today, after breakfast, you will be met by your coach and guide.  Your day of touring will start with a cable car ride to the top of the Untersberg Mountain (Maria mentions that she was “brought up” on this mountain; it is clearly seen across the lake in many scenes from the movie).  After a stop for lunch (own expense), you will, continue to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest where on the way you will pass by the meadow from the opening scene of the movie.
Finally, enjoy a scenic cruise on the Königssee; this mountain lake is seen during the opening of the movie.   On returning to Salzburg, there will be time to freshen up and have dinner before tonight’s scheduled activity.  At 730pm, enjoy an unforgettable interpretation of “The Sound of Music” at the Salzburg Marionette Theatre*.
